The Roding Roadster Electric is a research vehicle with a wheel hub drive. In collaboration with our customer, Siemens Corporate Technology, we have integrated the innovative powertrain with battery-powered electric drive in a concept vehicle based on the Roding Carbon Cell. Instead of the mechanical brake on the rear axle, the experimental vehicles are dynamically braked (electric traction motor used as a generator). The brake system is controlled by so-called brake blending. The braking torque is automatically shifted as needed from dynamic braking back to the friction brake on the front axle. The goal is to completely recover the potential energy in 70% of all braking operations.
